Computer Technology

Computer Technology is a one-or-two year program offered to junior and senior students who want to work with the repair and networking of computers. Students entering this program will learn the essentials of repairing, maintaining, and networking of computers for both home and small business environments. The latest methods of networking and configuring operating systems will be used in the class. Second year students will continue with courses exploring Microsoft Workstation Operating Systems, Server Operating Systems, and Linux Distributions. Qualified students will acquire the skills to potentially pass the CompTIA A+, Network+, Linux+, and or Microsoft Certified Professional Certification.

First year students will proceed in three phases. We start with Basic Computer Repair and at about fourteen weeks into the school year we move into more advanced topics involving computer Repair. At that point we continue with advance topics involving both hardware and operating systems for about twelve weeks. Finally we move to Networking Computer Networks for the final twelve weeks. Students will be expected to explore emerging technologies beyond the curriculum.

Second year students will also proceed in three phases. We start learning about the current Windows Operating Systems that is being used throughout the industry. Students will spend approximately twelve weeks focused on all aspects of Windows OS's. The second phase with be to explore the current Windows based Server Operating System. Students will spend about twelve to fourteen weeks learning how to manage networks from a Windows Server. The last phase will be an introduction to Linux Operating Systems. Students will use experiment with several different versions of Linux over the last twelve weeks of the school year. Students will install Linux on both Virtual Environments as well on other hardware. Students will be expected to explore emerging technologies beyond the curriculum.
